Primary use / Purpose:
The difficulty associated with adjusting to university life is well documented in the literature. Students who are new to University life, or living away from home for the first time, can struggle to adapt. This and other factors are thought to contribute to high drop out rates in the United States and elsewhere. However, many of the scales which focus on this problem take a trait based approach and so concentrate on pre-existing characteristics of the individual which may lead him/her to drop out later in life. The Student Perception of University Support and Structure Scale (SPUSS) aims to overcome this limitation by instead looking at the dynamic student-institution interaction.
